Santa & Friends Voiceovers by Mark Ryes
Client Brief – World of Illumination, a festive American attraction, needed my award-winning Santa voice for their seasonal shows in the US. They’ve previously worked with me for several years and always return to me to be their Santa voice every year.
What I did – I donned the red-suit and got into character! Well in my head anyway! I always enjoy the blustery jolly Santa impersonation and sent the individual lines to the attraction co-ordinators for them to freely use across their Xmas campaign.
Client Testimonial – “They are all amazing! Thank you, Mark. The new files are awesome.” I also record a lot of Santa telephony messages and here’s what one of my biggest telephony clients said: “We get a lot of clients asking for Mark’s Santa character in the final quarter of the year – we know his jolly Father Christmas voice is exactly what they want on their telephony systems to wish their clients a happy festive season. It’s ‘ho ho ho’ all around”
Client Brief – A client who runs a visitor attraction holds special scary days for the Halloween season. They needed a scary voice for their telephone booking line. They asked for several different scary characters from me, so they could pick their favourite.
What I did – I offered the client three different types of spooky voice (screechy, undead or raspy) and once they’d chosen their favourite, I voiced the script. I did the initial run slightly slower than normal so that everything was understandable for people ringing in for booking instructions. My experience with telephony voiceover has taught me to foresee potential issues like that, which the client was very grateful for.
Client Testimonial – “Mark delivered just the right mix of scary, spooky voice that was still understandable for a great deal of information the attraction wanted within their messaging. Great job.”
Client Brief – A production company needed my sports commentator voice for a video they were producing for the International Olympic Committee. Having worked with me before in the commentator style – they knew it would be the perfect fit for their corporate project.
What I did – The IOC asked for a softer style than my more frenetic football commentary. I was of course, very happy to adapt the voiceover performance, and recorded everything remotely before sending it over to them via WeTransfer. I’ve also recorded sports commentator styles for FedEx for the Europa Champions League Trophy, telephony for Carshalton Athletic, Hereford Racecourse and TV commercials for wix.com featuring Manchester City players – so this has become a staple of my British character voice acting roster.
Client Testimonial – “Many thanks Mark! Thanks again for the quick turnaround.”
Client Brief – My client wanted to record some narration for a little corporate video and loved my British vintage newsreader, Pathe style voice. They wanted to create something a bit more fun than the usual corporate videos, with the juxtaposition of a modern office with the vintage style voice.
What I did – I recorded the fast-paced voice in the Pathe style to match the rough-cut video I was sent and added some radio crackle over it for authenticity. My client was very grateful for the speed of my work, as well as the extra length I went to in order to improve the production value of the final piece with additional effects. It’s a British voice acting staple that I’m very seasoned in, having used it for installations at museums, as well as family videos when people get in touch for events like weddings or anniversaries.
Client Testimonial – “Wow what a quick turnaround. thank you. It’s working really well. Great job, I’m very happy.”
Client Brief – A production company based in Poland wanted a British video game voice actor for their game “Company of Crime”. They needed a Cockney gangster voice for the UK version and had selected me based on numerous British character voice acting samples that I had sent over.
What I did – I saw the rough cut of the video and matched my Cockney gangster voice timings to that. In this instance, the producer wanted a live feed into my performance, which I was easily able to supply using my CleanFeed line. With the producer happy with the final performance, I sent everything over to them the very same day.
Client Testimonial – “Thank you so much. The final result is great!”
Frequently asked questions
Santa and Friends Voiceover
Can I get a racing commentator style?
Yes, I record a lot of voiceovers in an F1 commentator style. I also do football commentator style. Please don’t hesitate to ask me for any samples of my commentator work and I’ll happily provide them, or do a sample of your script if it’s available.
Can you provide character voices?
Yes, I’m best known for my award-winning Santa Claus voiceover. But I also provide a series of horror voices for Halloween, a vintage 1940s newsreader style, and many other gaming and cartoon characters. Please ask for samples or check out my “Santa & Friends Voiceover” in my Voiceover Services.
I want Benedict Cumberbatch or Patrick Stewart on my voiceover, but I can't afford them. Can you do an impression of them for my script?
No, I don’t do impressions of other people, because that damages their brand and takes work away from them. I am happy to emulate a style if there is a particular one you’re after: For instance I did a series of videos for a company who wanted the John Nettles style on “Airport”.
